MHI to License KU Gas Engine Technologies to ZGPT of China

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) concluded an agreement with ZGPT Diesel Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (ZGPT), a Chinese manufacturer of stationary and marine engines, under which MHI will license its KU gas engine technologies to ZGPT. The move is targeted in the near term at seeking further penetration of the KU gas engines in the Chinese market as that market continues to mark robust growth, and beyond the near term at entering the local market for gas-fired distributed power generation system, a niche that is expected to greet sharp expansion in demand going forward. The newly concluded licensing agreement pertains to manufacture and marketing of MHI's 14KU30GSI 4,450 kilowatt (kW) class gas engine. Plans call for expansion of licensed model variations once business relating to the 14KU30GSI gets firmly on track. China has a plan to introduce a total of 50 gigawatts (GW) natural gas-fired distributed generation systems by 2020. However, because the country is promoting domestic production, local production is indispensable. Until now MHI has been seeking market entry through acquisition of a production base for its KU gas engines, while ZGPT has sought to add competitive gas engines to its lineup. The aims of the two companies have thus meshed in reaching the new licensing agreement. Rolls-Royce Marine Gas Engine EPA Approved

Rolls-Royce announce the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved its C-class engine for sale in the U.S. market. The C-class is a state-of-the art marine gas engine designed to improve fuel efficiency, dramatically cut harmful methane emissions and meet strict international environmental standards set to take effect in 2016. Rolls-Royce Delivering First Gas Power System for Tugs

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has signed a contract to deliver highly efficient engines and propulsion systems for the world’s first Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) powered tugs.   The two vessels have been ordered by Norwegian company Buksér og Berging AS and will enter service in late 2013 for Statoil, the international energy company, and Gassco, the operator of the gas transportation network off the Norwegian coast


Wärtsilä, Shell Sign Deal to Promote LNG as a Marine Fuel

Wärtsilä and Shell Oil Company have signed a Joint Co-operation Agreement aimed at promoting and accelerating the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel. The agreement was signed in August 2011 and will run for several years.  Supplies of low cost, low emissions LNG fuel will be made available to Wärtsilä natural gas powered vessel operators, and other customers by Shell. Five Cat Engines to Power World’s First LNG-Hybrid Barge

Caterpillar Marine announced the first shipment of Cat 3500 series marine gas engines from its Lafayette, Indiana manufacturing facility. Market Entry Beckons for ME-GI Engine

In separate announcements at MAN Diesel & Turbo’s second ME-GI test demonstration for customers in Copenhagen on 6 March, HHI-EMD – the Engine and Machinery Division of Hyundai Heavy Industries – and Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. stated that they intend to build prototypes of MAN Diesel & Turbo’s gas engine. The announcements effectively mean that the ME-GI has edged even closer to commercial production.

In the coming year, the HUMMEL (bumblebee) LNG Hybrid Barge will enable Becker Marine Systems to supply low-emission power to cruise ships lying at port in Hamburg. The first container with liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel has now arrived in the Hanseatic City.
