It was reported on MySteel.net that some South Korean shipbuilders have required Japan to cut its shipbuilding plate price by USD 150 per ton to USD 200 per ton. The negotiations are reportedly still in progress, and in the meantime, South Korea’s import price of ship plate from China has dropped to less than USD 500 per ton. South Korea 2008 ship plate consumption broke 10 million tons, over 30% of which were reportedly imported from China and more than 15% reportedly from Japan. (Sourced from MySteel.net)
